Goals

How to keep colors throughout the document processing chain.
To be able to calibrate and to characterize the various peripherals involved in the production of a printed matter.
This APP (Learning by Problem) will allow to initiate the students to the management of the color. He is particularly oriented towards the management of the color of a digital press. The objectives of this work are described in the following point: What must be known at the end of the APP. The deliverable is a report specifying the objectives of the work, the basic concepts of color management, the materials, software and documents that have been used, the methods (procedures) applied, the results obtained.

What must be known at the end of the APP:
• What is an ICC profile for?
• what is a color proof
• correctly use ICC profiles (assigning an ICC profile, converting to an ICC profile)
• Calibrate a screen or printer
• check a screen and printer calibration
• characterizing a device, ICC profiles
• Evaluate the colorimetric performance of a system.

II. Principles.
-Principle of colorimetric conversion.
-Use of correspondence tables.
-Use of modeling.


III. ICC profiles.

-Integration of profiles in images and documents.
-The problem of the non-matching of gamuts.
-Definition and examples of gamuts.
-How to determine a gamut.
-The different modes of compression.
-Methodology for creating profiles.


IV. Standardization.
