ActInPak is launching two student contests so as to reinforce collaboration between European students, researchers and businesses in the field of active and intelligent packaging.
ActInPak (Active and intelligent fibre-based packaging – innovation and market introduction) is a COST Initiative (FP1405) funded by the European Union. Its purpose is to identify and target the technical, social, economic and legislative factors that will come into play in introducing and deploying biobased active and intelligent packaging on the market. 33 EU countries and 7 additional partner countries are involved in the network, with participants representing more than 100 institutes and companies.
Jointly coordinated by Bumaga in the Netherlands (Chair: Sanne Tiekstra), LGP2 in France (Vice Chair: Julien Bras) and the University of Bologna in Italy (Marco Giacinti: STSM Manager), its primary objective is to bridge the gap between research-based innovation, industrial production and the commercialisation of new products by conducting research that encompasses not only the development of scientific and technical solutions, but also the analysis of the opportunities and obstacles inherent to the markets in question.
The student contests are aimed at young students at Bachelors or Masters level. The teams must be based in countries involved in the COST Initiative and available to present their results at an ActInPak conference.
There are two contests:
SC1 'Demonstrator': production of a demonstrator for active and intelligent packaging.
SC2 'Technological & economic analyses': technological and economic analyses of a type of active and intelligent packaging.
Every winning team will be invited to present their work at the next ActInPak conference. The winners will have the chance to expand their network of contacts and their CV will be circulated to all the partners (more than 100 contacts in industry and the academic world). Their work will also be publicised on the ActInPak website.
