The LGP2 laboratory has contributed to NewGenPak, a Marie Curie programme for the development of next-generation sustainable packaging, since 2012. Eight universities, three research institutes and six companies from ten European countries are involved in this research training network, which is coordinated by Sheffield Hallam University.

NewGenPak has secured funding for a number of research projects (ten doctoral and three post-doctoral). This research is coordinated by LGP2. The objective is to take new strides forward in the field of wood cellulose-based sustainable packaging and specifically in three areas: the next generation of composite materials for packaging applications, active packaging made from cellulose fibre, and the environmental, economic and societal aspects of packaging production.
From 2 to 4 February 2015, Sofiya, Jon, Qihao, Seema, Joana, Çağlar, Nikita and Yana Yana took part in the various sessions of the Career Development workshop, which was led by teacher-researchers from Grenoble INP-Pagora. Academic careers, careers in industry, business creation, CVs, discussions with human resources directors and project managers, feedback from PhD holders working in industry or pursuing a post-doctorate, creation of presentation videos, visits to the Pulp and Paper Research & Technical Centre and to Ahlstrom's Research & Development Centre... a packed timetable enabled these young doctoral students to better understand the various careers open to them and the resources available to help them find work after graduation.

All involved agreed that the event would be invaluable in helping them prepare for their future career!
