The new needs of the society lead papermakers to develop new papers or fibrous material which have to be lighter (low grammage products) and functionalized. The functionalization is performed by deposition at the surface of an aqueous coating or sizing slurry. Water will first penetrate the fibrous substrate before to be removed by drying. During these two unit operations, wrinkles can appear which impact the productivity: papers are not complying with the technical specifications. The aim of this project is to understand the physical phenomena which occur during the wrinkles formation, how they are strengthened and to propose some technical solutions and/or process parameters optimization to reduce the fibrous material wrinkling.
You will be hired in the framework of a Regional project (2018-2023) called “Eternité” and dealing with research and development devoted to optically transparent materials and electrical conductors that has attracted growing interest in recent years for many applications. These are a key technological element for a large number of devices such as solar cells, efficient lighting (LEDs, OLEDs), touch screens, smart windows, transparent heating films, etc.
