LGP2 - SustainPack, fiber-based packaging

Fiber-based packaging

SustainPack is a great European research project. Its scientific and technical goal is to develop innovative packaging fiber-based with other renewable materials.

This integrated project gathers 35 partners from 12 countries (25 universities et research centers et 10 industries). It is coordinated by STFI-Packforsk. The global budget is 30 millions euros for 4 years (june 2004 - june 2008). 16,7 millions d'euros are given by European Union.
There are 6 sub-projects.

3D fiber based composites for packaging

Pagora coordinates the 5th sub-project (SP5) dedicated to the 3D fiber-based composites for packaging.

Goal: to develop the research in the areas of thermoplastic material based on cellulosic fibers and renewable polymeric matrices, and of cushioning material based on fibers or microfibrillated cellulose and matrices. The ultimate goal is to replace the petroleum based counterparts.
