Green carbon and circular economy, an obvious

Breaking the impasse of "all-oil", its derivatives and its waste, fight against global warming. These are the great challenges of the 21st century ...
To build a sustainable world, the use of biobased, recyclable materials with intelligent functions becomes essential.

Promises of a world in the making

Each year, the Earth generates 100 to 200 billion tons of plant biomass, of which one billion is mobilizable. Its main constituent is cellulose. Renewable and recyclable, this natural resource with remarkable properties can be transformed and enhanced. Cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin, extracted from wood from eco-managed forests, are used to manufacture:
• biomaterials – paper, cardboard, biocomposites – to which additional properties (mechanical, optical, electronic, barrier, etc.) can be added by various printing methods,
• 2nd generation biofuels,
• Bioproducts with multiple applications (chemistry, pharmacy, cosmetics, food, automobile, etc.).

Circular economy and pulp & paper industry

Mastering key skills

  • Materials derived from plant biomass.
  • Associated processes (biorefinery, green chemistry, process engineering ...).
  • Valorization of natural or industrial waste.
  • Functionalization of surfaces to produce intelligent materials with high added value.
  • Environmental management ...
These strategic skills, acquired by Grenoble INP-Pagora engineers, are all the more precious because they are rare and play a fundamental role in the valorization of plant biomass and its derivatives ...
