Globalization has become a significant factor in the competitive advantage of companies today.
The global work context is characterized by cultural diversity and geographical dispersion. Therefore, understanding culture, cross cultural differences and similarities, as well as the characteristics of the global work context, are necessary for successful adaptation and leadership in global organizations.
Project Objectives
a) To sensitize professionals and managers to similarities and differences in cultural values, management practices and behaviors and facilitate their adaptation to the global, multi-cultural work context.
b) To develop awareness to one's own culture and learn how others perceive a person's own culture.
c) To study the characteristics of the global work culture.
d) To learn about working in multicultural teams and successfully manage such teams.
An important aspect of this project is the opportunity to work on a team project as a member of a virtual, multi-cultural team, consisting of four members from MBA classes in different cultures. This team project provides the opportunity to gain experience in actively participating in a virtual, multicultural team, as well as to learn about the opportunities and challenges facing an investor in a foreign country. Each team will prepare a proposal for a new social venture in a country none of the team members spent substantial time in. Proposals will focus on the cultural aspects related to running the venture in the specific location, and not on economic factors.
The project has been developed and managed over the last ten years by Professor Miriam Erez and by the project coordinators at the Technion.

Content & Scope
The project materials represent a quadratic model, which aims to educate the participants about four factors:
1) National cultures and the global culture: Learning about different typologies of cultural values and the cultural profile of different countries, as well as learning about the global work culture.
2) Self-Identity: Developing awareness to a person's dual local and global identity
3) Global leadership characteristics and behaviors: learning about effective global leadership characteristics and behaviors, which differentiate between successful and less successful global leaders.
4) Individual and team outcomes: Identifying the team characteristics of effective multicultural virtual teams.
Method
Participants will work in a multi-cultural, virtual team on a joint project with team members from different countries, among which: U.S., France, India and Israel.
Communication
All project assignments will be done virtually and held in English.
Platform
All project materials are found on the project website. Team communications and completion of project assignments are done or managed on the project website as well. Prior to the beginning of the project participants will receive a username, a team number, and the names and email addresses of their team members.
