Goal(s)

Learning outcomes :

  • To use an optical microscope(to make the appropriate adjustments)
  • To know about wood structure
  • To know the main characteristic dimensions of wood fibres

Responsible(s)

Raphael PASSAS

Content(s)

Biomaterials are often reinforced by natural fibres which are coming either from agriculture residuals (like annual plants)or from wood.
This lab session allows you to determine length, width and cell wall thickness of wood fibres both in a wood block and in pulp suspension. This work has to be performed for hardwood and softwood.
Experimental data are statistically interpretated due to the natural dispersity of the cells.
