Goals

Learning outcomes :

  • To know the hygroexpansion phenomena of natural fibre media (paper, mats, nonwovens, etc.), and the creep phenomena of these same materials in the wet state
  • To measure water absorption by materials as a function of changes in the relative humidity of the ambient air
  • To measure dimensional variations in the plane of materials under the same environmental conditions
  • To measure the creep of materials after humidification
  • To produce a technical report that presents the experiences of its working group and the obtained results

Content

The objectives of this practical work is to illustrate (i) the hygroexpansion phenomena of fibrous media made up of natural fibres (papers, non-wovens, mats) and (ii) the creep phenomena of the same type of materials in a wet state.

Three types of experiments will be performed during the practical work session: (i) measurement of water uptake by the tested materials depending on the relative humidity conditions of the ambient air of their environment, (ii) measurement of in-plane dimensional variations placed in an identical environment and (iii) creep measurement of materials after wetting.



Prerequisites

Knowledge about the mechanical behaviour of materials.

Tests

Technical report abour the experiments performed during the practical work session. No retake
