Goal(s)
Learning outcomes :
- To understand the phenomena of paper and cardboard deformation induced by variations in environmental conditions and anisotropic (elastic) mechanical behaviour laws of paper or cardboard
- To understand the influence of paper manufacturing conditions on the mechanical and hygroexpansive properties of paper
- To understand the main phenomena of hygroexpansion, creep and buckling of paper or cardboard
- To present the main methods, and measure deformations and stresses in materials
- To list and state the laws of behaviour of materials
- To present the complex (hygro-)mechanical behaviour of papers, the influence of drying, the hygroexpansion of papers, the creep of papers, the phenomenon of accelerated creep
Responsible(s)
Raphael PASSAS
Content(s)
The objectives are:
- an improved knowledge of the deformation phenomena of paper and boards that are related to modifications of the environmental conditions,
- a better understanding of the mechanical (elastic) anisotropic constitutive laws for papers and boards
- a better understanding of the effects of manufacturing conditions on the hygroexpansive and mechanical behaviours of paper
- a first introduction to creep phenomena.
Introduction to hygroexpansion, creep and buckling phenomena of papers and boars. Definition of strain and stress measurements. Constitutive laws of materials. Hygro-mechanical behaviour of paper. Influence of drying. Hygroexpansion of paper. Creep and accelerated creep.
PrerequisitesPhysics of paper (1st year).
Strength of materials.
