Goals

Learning outcomes :

  • To understand and communicate the usefulness of a manufacturing file (form, purpose, elements to be taken into account, file cycle)
  • To define the elements of a manufacturing file in adequacy with the equipment of a company
  • To provide checklists necessary for the smooth running of production
  • To use CAM software to develop a manufacturing file and record time spent
  • To present the main settings of the machines for the manufacture of a product (following the follow-up of the manufacture of a product in the company)
  • To make a manufacturing file and present the CR for making the file

Content

Report

o Case of a company producing printed matter
Standard content of the report

  • a brief presentation of the company
  • a brief description of the company's equipment,
  • the description of the product followed: number of copies, finished, open format, number of colors, material characteristics: paper, type of ink used, type of plastic if film coating (PE + thickness, etc.), gilding, type of glue used… - operating range (printing process, shaping, call for subcontracting),
    The ERP used: quote (fixed cost, variable cost, cost per 1000 + ...), manufacturing file generated.

The description of the production in the case of making a printout must include the following information:

  • formats of files created, received: PDF / X…,
  • type of test used: RIP + ICC profiles used, tracer used,
  • taxation schemes,
  • lock-up setting, rolling, production time, speed of the machines: for the product followed, average speeds, max…,
  • set densities of solid ink, AVT,
  • the hardware and software used for the production of this particular product and the settings of the various machines (eg prepress: TAC 300%, GCR max., ICC profile isocoated v2…, press: Cyan solid density: 1.40 …)

o Case of a company working in research and development (or not doing production)
The content of the report should be focused on how the company manages projects.
The following concepts should appear in the report:

  • Organization,
  • Role of the different people involved in the project,
  • IT tools used,
  • Methodologies used,
  • Typical project sheet: project objectives, project performance indicators, planning, risk analysis, definition of strengths, weaknesses, opportunity and threat concerning the project.
  • Cost calculation,
  • Description of the realization of a prototype, description of a production on a laboratory machine, important elements for piloting the pilot process.
