Goals

Understanding and characterisation of the modifications of the microstructural properties and in the physical properties of paper that are induced by the pressing and drying operations. Be able to conduct experiments to study these variations. Be able to interpret the experimental results and to present them using Figures and Tables. Discussion of the experimental results. Oral presentation of the experimental results.

Content

  • Introduction to the unit operations of pressing and drying
  • 3 practical sessions: (i) manufacturing of paper handsheets by varying the pressing parameters, (ii) manufacturing of paper handsheets by varying the drying parameters, (iii) characterisation of physical properties of handsheets.
  • The study is carried out in groups of 3 persons

Physics of paper (1st year)

Tests

Oral presentation : EXAM1
Document: improved presentation after the oral presentation : EXAM2
Involvement in practical work sessions : EVAL1
