Content(s)
These lab. sessions are based on the use of computer home-made simulators at Pagora. Kraft batch cooking and ECF bleaching are simulated. A selection of process parameters are studied, and the best strategies for these parameters to reach target results in terms of yield, kappa number and brightness is searched. Some investigations are realized thanks to the building of adequate DOE's (factorial, Simplexe). Results of the latter are compared to a manual search of optimized conditions.
The use of simulators allows a rapid investigation and deep understanding of the cooking & bleaching processes applied to wood & pulp. Understanding is related to the chemical theory presented during the corresponding course sessions related to wood and plant pulping.
Prerequisites
Course session in wood & plant chemistry and pulping.
BSc. knowledge on applied mathematical tools for optimization.
BSc. knwowledge on computation methods for process modelling.
