Goal(s)

Study of the optical properties of pulp and paper and their measurement.

Learning outcomes :

  • To list the main optical properties of pulp and paper, and the main spectral properties of sources and illuminants
  • To measure the main characteristics of pulp and paper, and the spectral characteristics of sources and illuminants
  • To present the interactions of light and diffusing and absorbing materials
  • To understand the influence of lighting geometry and observation on the measurement of spectral response (whiteness degree, opacity, grammage and gloss degree relationship)
-To measure and present the whiteness contribution of fluorescent azurage products
  • To apply Kubelka and Munk models (know how to associate properties for prediction of optical characteristics)
