Goal(s)
Give the structure and characteristics of the most abundant lignocellulosic biomass components: cellulose, lignin, hemicelluloses and explain their chemical behaviour in an agressive environment, with the help of the main mechanisms of organic chemistry
Content(s)
The origin of the interaction of electromagnetic radiations with the molecules and its consequences (colour, fluorescence, photosynthesis...)are explained. The biosynthesis and structure of cellulose, starch, hemicelluloses and lignin are described. The behaviour of these components in an agressive environment(acid medium, alkaline medium, light and heat exposure) is explained with the main mechanisms encountered in organic chemeistry (nucleophilic and electrophilic reactions, acid and alkaline reactions, oxidation and reduction, radical reaction, resonance...)
