Goals

Gain knowledge on first and second generation biorefinery processes used to fractionate vegetal biomasse. Bioproducts and biofuels produced in the different types of biorefinery will be studied.

Content

General introduction
Chap 1. Chemical constituants of vegetal biomasses used in biorefineries
Chap 2 : Introduction to petrol based refinery and petrochemistry
Chap 3. First generation biorefineries based on starch and vegetal oil : processes, bioproducts, biofuels.
Chap 4. Second generation biorefineries based on lignocellulosic biomasses: processes, bioproducts, biofuels.
The following processes will be studied : alkaline processes, acid processes, organosolv processes, steam explosion processes, introduction to thermochemical processes

Prerequisites

Wood chemistry course (Year 1) – Course on the Processes of production of chemical and mechanical fibers (Year 2)
