Green carbon and circular bioeconomy, an obvious

Breaking the impasse of "all-oil", its derivatives and its waste, fight against global warming. These are the great challenges of the 21st century ... To build a sustainable world, the use of biobased, recyclable materials with intelligent functions becomes essential.

Each year, the Earth generates 100 to 200 billion tonnes of plant biomass, of which one billion can be mobilized

Its main constituent is cellulose. Renewable and recyclable, this natural resource with remarkable properties can be transformed and valued.
Cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin, extracted from wood from eco-managed forests, are used to make
biomaterials - paper, cardboard, biocomposites - to which additional properties (mechanical, optical, electronic, barrier, etc.) can be added by various processes, in particular printing,
2nd generation biofuels,
bioproducts with multiple applications (chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, cars, etc.).

Mastery of key skills

Materials from plant biomass.
Associated processes (biorefinery, green chemistry, process engineering…).
Recovery of natural or industrial waste.
Functionalization of surfaces to produce intelligent materials with high added value.
Environmental management…

These strategic skills, acquired by Grenoble INP-Pagora engineers, are all the more precious since they are rare and play a fundamental role in the promotion of plant biomass and its derivatives ...
