Objectif(s)

The knowledge of the chemicals recovery cycle in a biorefining mill using the kraft process

Responsable(s)

Gerard MORTHA

Contenu(s)

The unit operations of the chemicals recovery cycle in a kraft mill. Processes and unit operations, chemistry and chemicals, reactions, mass & energy balance are presented. Physiochemical phenomena and the main methods for calculation are described.

  • Black Liquor evaporation: multiple-effect evaporation, characterizations
  • Green Liquor production: processes, characterizations, dregs purification (clarifier, filtration)
  • White Liquor production: slaking and causticizing,
  • White mud purification treatments for lime recovery (reburning in a lime kiln)
  • Lime kiln operation

Prérequis

Chemical Engineering: basics and some fondamentals on general unit operations, reactors and chemical reaction engineering
Chemistry (general fondamentals)
