Experimental methods for the production and characterization of lignocelluloses and derived bioproducts

Content(s)
The experimental work is divided in the following items:
- application of alkaline delignification and ECF bleaching processes for wood and pulp
- analysis of process liquors, alkali balance
- analysis of the cellulosic pulps produced (unbleached and bleached pulps)
- discussion and interpretation, effect of conditions and parameters applied
Fundamentals of general chemistry and analytical chemistry
Chemistry laboratory experience
Test
Evaluation : 70% of Description of evaluation conditions in the ‘Evaluation’ field and 30% of Rapport ou compte-rendu (1h30)
Group grade (50%) + Individual grade (50%):
Group work:
50% Continuous written report in the form of a research paper (introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion, bibliography), prepared at the end of each session by student groups (teams of three).
Individual work:
20% Continuous individual assessment, taking into account participation and engagement during sessions, as well as compliance with safety guidelines, punctuality, autonomy, and independence.
30% Final individual written exam, assessing the student’s ability to calculate the basic parameters studied in class and to discuss the results. At the end of the 6 sessions, the complete set of experimental data obtained by all the lab groups will be made available to students. The exam will consist of reproducing the calculations, comparing results across groups, and discussing the origins of any differences (e.g., variations in cooking parameters and wood species).
Not eligible for a second session.
