Wood pulp delignification (wood-containing fibers and chemical pulp fibers)

Content(s)

The experimental work is divided in the following items:

  • basics of lab practices and standard chemicals preparations, standard solutions for analysis
  • wood and pulp delignification processes
  • pulping processes liquor analysis
  • cellulose analysis : functional groups, viscosimetry (degree of polymerisation)
  • lignin analysis (functional groups)
  • characterization of a cellulose derivative (cellulose acetate)

Prerequisites

Basics in general chemistry and analytical chemistry.
Former experience in a chemical lab. during ungraduate or MS studies.

Test

General reports resulting from the collective work produced by several groups of students.
Individual evaluation of each student: activity and participation during the lab. works.
No retake session
