Goal(s)
Learning outcomes :
- To know the first 2 paper engineering operations: the disintegration and refining of paper pulp
- To use the paper process simulator, and know how to use it whenever possible
- To produce a report written via the simulator
- To make and argue series of decisions made and trade-off choices made, in usual and uncomfortable situations
- To solve problems involving variations in disintegration time and pulp concentration
- To characterize and represent the kinetics of an operation by the theoretical elements seen during the course of paper engineering
- To characterize and represent the kinetic constant based on the general model of the kinetic constant
- To produce a report that presents a synthesis of the manipulations performed and the obtained results

Content(s)
The objectives are to analyze 2 papermaking operations of the S3 course in papermaking engineering with the help of the computer tool whenever it is possible. The report is also written using the computer.
The objectives are to put the students in inconfortable situations where they have to take décisions and to justify their choices and décisions.
Two problems are given to the students. The first interests the pulp disintegration operation for which multiple data: pulp disintegrations indexes, times, consistencies are given. By applying the results found in the papermaking engineering course (S3), the work for the students is to analyse and model the data by the help of the computer facilities. Then they have to validate the model. Another continuing approach is asked: to model the kinetic constant in order to establish a more general model of the disintegration operation.
PrerequisitesCourses of papermaking science and engineering: operations as the pulp disintegration and the pulp refining
- Specific credits: this course brings 1.0 ECTS to students in Paper Sciences Level 1
The report must be written one week after the day, since it is preferable to synthetized the results and analysis in order to have a global view.
No second session.
note = moyenne pondérée des 2 TP: coefficient 1 pour le premier, coefficient 2 pour le deuxième
note = (1*note TP + 2*note TP2)/3
