Goal(s)

This course introduces the principles of antenna design and analysis and fundamental building blocks as well for UHF and SHF applications, with a focus on simulation, prototyping and experimental characterization.
The pedagogical approach combines theoretical lectures with tutorials and case studies related to printed electronics. Students will understand how antenna performance strongly impacts the efficiency of wireless systems (range, power consumption, reliability).

Part 1 - Nhu Huan NGUYEN
• Become familiar with fundamental parameters in RF domain
• Understand different propagation modes
• Understand RF fundamental building blocks
• Become familiar with impedance matching technique

Part 2 – Delphine BECHEVET
• Understand the role and impact of the antenna in a wireless communication system.
• Become familiar with different types of antennas (dipole, patch, monopole, etc.) and their application domains.
• Acquire a methodology for antenna design and simulation.
• Get introduced to antenna prototyping techniques (printed technologies, rapid prototyping).
• Learn how to use measurement and characterization tools (vector network analyzer, free-space measurements, etc.).
