Goal(s)
Learning outcomes :
- To state the challenges and positioning of paper/cardboard in the packaging sector
- To characterize the cardboard manufacturing processes to identify and present them
- To rely on theoretical elements of Paper Physics, on the thermal and mechanical properties of materials, to understand the Flexural Stiffness and Vertical Compressive Strength of packaging
- To calculate the bending stiffness of a cellulosic material
- To characterize and measure the resistance to Vertical Compression of packaging
- To know and optimize the manufacture of flat and corrugated cardboard
- To know the impact of dimensional stability on board production

Content(s)
Key points regarding world packaging market evolutions. Definition of folding and corrugating boards and their uses in the paper industry.
General understanding in process engineering, material transfer and mechanical properties applied to rigid material as corrugated and folding boards.
Basic concepts of dimensional stability applied to the manufacture of cardboard
Be able to definite folding and corrugated boards and their making processes. Be able to analyse specific physical properties and board's uses as well as board’s potential, the required properties for runnability and for the use for converted products.
PrerequisitesKnowledge of basic paper physics (first year, thermic and mecanic properties of cellulosic materials
