Goals

Learning outcomes :

  • To describe the process for setting up an environmental management system
  • To carry out a personal Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment with available tools
  • To take a critical look at the results obtained
  • To propose solutions to reduce its environmental impact
  • To collect and sort regulatory texts according to a particular situation
  • To know the different unit operations of a wastewater treatment
  • To identify impact transfers in certain approaches to reducing environmental impacts

Content

Educate future decision makers and stakeholders of the paper, processing and printing industry in environmental, economic and societal issues,in concordance with sustainable developpement. The lesson considers the product and the process approches.

Introduce tools and methods as well as technical and technological aspects in the treatment and management of effluents and waste, life cycle analysis of products. Describe the elements of consideration aspects hygiene, quality, safety and environment at an industrial site.

1. Introduction to sustainable development issues: water management, energy and waste.
2. Life Cycle analysis (LCA) - product approach
3. Environmental management, ISO 14001
4. Introduction to water treatment and effluent, characteristics, processing chains, operations physico-chemical and biological.
5. Issues of climate changes and fossil fuel stocks trough the carbon quota and carbon footprint.
