Goal(s)

Knowledge of the thermo-chemical processes under development for the production of energy, gas, fuels and chemicals from biomass. Knowledge of the issues and key actors in the field.

Responsible(s)

Maria GONZALEZ

Content(s)

After an overview of the issues and the development of thermo-chemical processes applied to plant biomass as well as of the main actors in the field, the theoretical aspects of the thermal treatment and decomposition of plant biomass during drying, pyrolysis and gasification will be covered. The related technologies will be described . Gas purification and gas applications, including the Fischer-Tropsch process for hydrocarbon synthesis, will be detailed. The different techniques of pre-treatment of biomass will be reviewed. Elements of economic evaluation will be given for various application examples.
