Goal(s)

Learning Outcomes :

  • Lead (and participate in) a scientific debate;
  • Define a series of tests to characterize a printing defect;
  • Develop hypotheses based on the analysis of a sample;
  • Diagnose a product with printing defects;
  • Write an expert report presenting hypotheses and possible solutions.

Content(s)

This teaching is given in the form of problem-based learning.
3 work phases :

  • bibliographical research and application of the 5M method to select the tests to be carried out. Development of hypotheses.
  • Preparing and participating in a scientific debate aimed at reaching expert agreement on the origin of the defect.
  • Writing of a report on the defect expertise.
    Deliverables are requested at each step of the PBL and constitute the main part of the final report.

Depending on the health constraints applicable, the sessions (including the scientific debate) may be held remotely.

Prerequisites

  • Knowledge of processes (papermaking, printing and converting) and equipment, materials (paper, inks, etc.), corresponding technical English.
  • Mastery of bibliographic research tools.
  • Understanding of English.

  • Specific credits: this course brings 1.5 ECTS to students in ICI - Exchange Semester - AUTUMN

Evaluation : Report + oral presentation

Resit : Report + oral presentation

Course and exam language adapted to the student profile.

The assessment is made up of 3 parts forming a grade out of 20:

  • Participation of the group and its members in the scientific debate (Oral) / 10 points
  • Drafting of a summary document, including a description of the defect, the 5M method, a rationale for the choice of tests to be carried out, details of a test protocol and a position on the arguments put forward during the debate phase. The document is submitted to the teacher in hard copy and in digital format (on the Chamilo platform) by a given deadline./ 8 points
  • Individual participation: 2 points
    Note: each deliverable is assessed: the average of these assessments represents 50% of the grade for the summary report.

Subject may be made up in the event of justified prolonged absence.

Semester 7 : The exam may be taken in french or in english
